The town of NKP had several good bars and a few real dives. Here is a listing of those bars known to us in 1974. A typical bar run started at 1630 and the only requirement was at least one drink in each before closing time, only the real hardcore could make the entire run. The more conservative of us would find one or two for the night.

For us a good night on the town started at the Swiss Chalet for a gourmet dinner with an excellent dessert and a nice Irish coffee. Then the evening would continue at the Shindig or Rising Sun with drinking and dancing well into the night. A quiet lunch could always be had at the P & S with pizza and beer while gazing across the Mekong to Laos.

A Mekong and Coke was the standard drink.

For beer drinkers, Amarit was the usual fare.

Rosalie and I both went to Jimmy for our tattoos.
