Peanut Butter Bones
1 package dry yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
1 cup mashed potatoes
1 cup milk
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup chicken stock 
1 cup chunky peanut butter
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup rye flour
1/2 cup rice flour
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose white flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 F (165 C). 

 In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in water. In a large saucepan, mix together the
 potatoes, milk, molasses, stock, and peanut butter. Heat, stirring frequently until
 boiling. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Add yeast mixture. Gradually
 blend in the egg, wheat, rye, and rice flours. Add enough white flour to form a stiff

 Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). 
 Shape the dough into a ball and roll to 1/2-inch (12 mm) thick. Using cookie cutters, 
 cut out biscuits. Place on ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4-inch (6 mm)
 apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits.
 
 Bake for 45 minutes. Let cool overnight. Makes several dozen bones that freeze well--and
 have the consistency of pizza crusts, a favorite snack for most spoiled dogs! 

"Good Dog" Cookies 1/2 cup powdered milk 1 egg, well beaten 2 1/2 cups flour 1/2 tsp garlic salt 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar 1/2 cup water 6 tsp gravy Baby food meat Mix all ingredients well. Roll out on a floured board about 1/2" thick. Cut out cookie shapes with floured cutters. Bake at 350F for 25-30 minutes. Cool, maybe leaving them in the oven to dry. Cookies should be hard. Store in an airtight container.
Bad Breath Banishers 2 cups brown rice flour 1 Tablespoon activated charcoal (not the briquettes!) 3 Tablespoons canola oil 1 egg 1/2 cup chopped fresh mint 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley 2/3 cup low fat milk Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly oil a cookie sheet. Combine flour and charcoal. Add all the other ingredients. Drop teaspoonfuls on oiled sheet, about 1 inch apart. Bake 15-20 minutes. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.
Ham It Up Cat Treat 1 2.5 oz. jar strained ham baby food 5/8 cup wheat germ 5/8 cup non-fat milk powder 1 egg beaten Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray cookie sheet with vegetable oil spray. Mix baby food, wheat germ, milk powder and egg in medium bowl. Drop by 1/2 teaspoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on wire rack. Store baked treats in airtight container or plastic bag and place in refrigerator or freezer. Makes 2 1/2 to 3 dozen. Note: Beef or chicken baby food may be substituted for ham baby food
Say Cheese, Please Cat Treats 6 tablespoons ( 5/8 stick) margarine -- room temperature 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese -- room temperature 1 cup unbleached flour 7/8 teaspoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon water Blend margarine, cheese, flour, garlic powder and water in medium-size bowl. Shape into three 6-inch-long logs. Cover and chill 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Coat cookie sheets with vegetable oil spray. Slice logs into 7/8-inch-thick slices. Place slices on prepared cookie sheets. Bake in preheated oven 10 to 15 minutes. Remove treats from oven and cool on wire rack. Store in airtight container in freezer. Makes 5 to 6 dozen treats.
Holy Mackerel Cat Treats 1/2 cup canned mackerel - drained, crumbled 1 cup whole grain bread crumbs 1 Tbs. vegetable oil or bacon grease 1 egg - beaten 1/2 tsp. brewer's yeast - optional, see Notes below -Combine all ingredients; mix well. -Drop dough by 1/4 teaspoonfuls 1" apart onto a greased cookie sheet. -Bake in a 350 degree oven 8 minutes. -Cool biscuits and store, covered, in the refrigerator. Notes: Store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks OR freeze up to 1 year. Brewer's yeast is an excellent source of essential fatty acids and B-Complex vitamins for a glossy coat and stable nervous system. It's also known to prevent flea infestation.
Cat Cookies 1 c Whole wheat flour 1/4 c Soy flour 1 tbs catnip (Catnip aids digestion.) 1 Egg 1/3 c Milk 2 tbs Wheat germ 1/3 c Powdered milk 1 tbs unsulfurated molasses 2 tbs Butter or vegetable oil Preheat oven to 350F. Mix dry ingredients together. Add molasses, egg, oil and milk. Roll out flat onto oiled cookie sheet and cut into small, cat bite-sized pieces. Bake for 20 minutes. Let cool and store in tightly sealed container.
